Canada’s advanced patent examination process can allow patent holders to gain a strategic advantage over potential infringers, writes Aaron Edgar in Lawyers Weekly.

In the article, Aaron explains that Canada’s advanced examination process can allow applicants to obtain a patent as quickly as just over a year, as long as they can show likely prejudice to their rights and pay a $500 fee.

“In a fast-paced, global technology marketplace, obtaining patent protection quickly and efficiently is critically important to stopping potential infringers. Waiting three to five years for a patent to issue with traditional examination can be far too late to take effective action,” Edgar writes. “Canada’s advanced examination allows patent applicants to obtain their patent quickly so that they can take strategic enforcement actions.”
